Knife Edge vs Comfort Fit Band

Diamond solitaire engagement rings are available in a number of different styles. One of the most popular solitaire designs is the classic “knife-edge” band [see first ring, below]. However, some people find that a knife edge band is not that comfortable, so most jewelers offer a version known as a “comfort fit” band [second ring, below].

The comfort-fit band (also known as a Half Round band) is not as popular as the knife edge, but some prefer the rounded edges of the “comfort fit”, especially when it’s for jewelry that you’ll be wearing every day. The knife edge band may get uncomfortable at times, such as when you are carrying a number of heavy items in that hand, which can squeeze the fingers together too tightly.

However, most find the knife edge to be pretty comfortable to wear. It’s a classic look and a flattering setting for a diamond. The knife edge design will never go out of style.

Which to choose? In the end it comes down to personal style and preference. If you’re not sure, try starting with the knife edge, and if you find it uncomfortable you can replace it with a comfort fit.
